In the spotlight 12: Lawrence Wharerau

We were lucky enough for the exhibition lecture series to get Lawrence Wharerau in to talk about the waiata "Whare tapu o Ngā Puhi - the sacred house of Ngā Puhi".
This waiata was written by Tarau Titore for the 100th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi.
If you could not make it to the wānanga itself you can still see it! Here we present Lawrence and some of the korero that was shared during the wānanga.

We hope you enjoy it. (May take a few minutes to load)

Here for your listening pleasure is Lawrence joined by the crowd singing "Whare tapu o Ngā Puhi - the sacred house of Ngā Puhi"

Thank you to everyone that participated.

In the spotlight 11: the lecture series.

Initially the team met and threw about some names of people who may want to take part and have interesting stories about the people and place of Hokianga.
We came up with many names but only limited spaces so had to go through the list. It was quite a discussion!
In the end we came up with a list of 10 people. The actual organisation of the lecture series booking of the speakers, publicity and timing was put together by Judith Waaka.

We were lucky that almost everyone we asked was willing even with our very tight budget. The support from the speakers and visitors for the Kaupapa has been overwhelming, with the lectures very well attended so far.
We have been proud to be able to present these speakers and allow people to hear their Korero. I myself have learnt so much on so many subjects!

If you have not visited a lecture yet you still can, we have Rewi Spraggon and Riki Bennett from Te Ara Toi performing a traditional musical experience on the 19th of September

We would like to take this opportunity to express our enormous thanks to the speakers who have taken part in the exhibition, and the people who have supported it by coming along.
