Returning Hokianga Artworks

He mihia, he tangihia e hotu kau noa mai i te ngākau pāwatawata o te aroharoha.

The Hokianga artworks are returning to their creators with the closing of an extremely successful exhibition hosted by Auckland City Libraries, Te Rōpū Ratonga Māori Services team. Without the broad and diverse medium of Hokianga artworks, the Hokianga exhibition would not have been aesthetically appealing to the “eyes of the heart”, that exemplifies an essence of Hokianga.

All pieces graced the wall with a dignity and entitlement that collectively represented the creative heart of the Hokianga people, you the artists and artisans. Auckland City Libraries is appreciative of the artists participation, via submissions and the supportive attendance at the opening and closing of the Hokianga exhibition (14 July – 29 September 2007).

This event has been a pleasure, primarily because of you, the artisans of Hokianga. Thank you.

The artworks will be returning to:
Rāwene Town Hall
26 October 2007
4 pm – 7 pm

If there are any difficulties concerning the collection of your artwork, please contact:

Hokianga Exhibition closing.

29th of September saw the closing of the Hokianga exhibition, held here at Auckland City Libraries..
It was an emotional and heartfelt occasion for all the people there. Many of the artists and their friends and families were there to help us celebrate the conclusion of this major exhibition.
Throughout the three months of the exhibition we have had so much support from the Hokianga community and the people who have visited, it was a wonderful experience for all involved.

Below are some of the pictures from the closing, thank you again to all who participated and supported Te Rōpū Rātonga Māori and Auckland city libraries.

Ehara taku toa, i te toa takitahi engari he toa takitini.
My strength is not from myself alone, but from the strength of the group.

The blog will continue, with information about speakers that took part in the exhibition as well as announcing the winner of the Hokianga Rocks competition! So stay tuned!
