One of interest, Te Ao Hou, The New World was published by the Maori Affairs Department from 1952 to 1976, its aim was
"… to provide interesting and informative reading for Maori homes… like a marae on paper, where all questions of interest to the Maori can be discussed." It is bilingual in content, reporting in both Maori and English, and is now a sought after publication.
They capture many colourful events and stories that emphasize the many aspects that is the Hokianga.
There are over a hundred Hokianga stories to read online from Kupe the legendary navigator and chief and an explanation and history of Otira meeting house pub. 1953, to a field day at Panguru in 1960 and proverbial expressions from the Hokianga too.
